Good entry level miner.Difficult to set up.Good miner for those wanting to discover how bitcoin mining works and support the bitcoin network as a hobby.If you're looking to actually profit from mining bitcoins, then you're about a couple years too late.Profitability from home mining is dead because the hash rate necessary to make a profit is (as of Nov 2015) is somewhere around 0.25W per Ghs if you live in central Washington state and can get hydroelectric power for 0.02/kWh.That said, this USB miner does work but is VERY difficult to get running.I've gotten it to work on both Windows 7 and a Raspberry Pi.***Note*** to use it with the raspberry Pi, you need a good quality *powered* USB hub (RPi doesn't have enough power on its own to power the Avalon).The Hub should be a USB 2.0 hub (the 3.0 don't work well with RPi).I got mine to sucessfully work with this hub:Plugable USB 2.0 7-Port High Speed Hub with 15W Power AdapterI also recommend using bfgminer.However, you have to use special command arguments to get the miner to work specifically:Windows:bfgminer.exe -S ICA://COM<0-13> -set-device ICA:baud=115200 -set-device ICA:reopen=timeout -set-device ICA:work_division=1 -set-device ICA:fpga_count=1 -set-device ICA:probe_timeout=100 -set-device ICA:timing=0.22 -api-listen -o stratum+tcp:// -O -p ** The COM should be whatever COM port windows maps the USB to.
